The professors are great, the classes are challenging and topical. They require and encourage a lot of networking both inside and outside of the University. I've had friends claim that the area (Syracuse) is uninteresting in comparison to other cities, but I've found that it has good bars, decent shopping and cheap apartments.
It was easy, but I'm an American citizen. I just applied, heard back two months later, and attended the orientation weekend shortly after that.
Out of 100 library students, only 25 are granted scholarships up front. On the other hand, the school goes out of it's way to provide links to other opportunities, grants and scholarships. It is very easy to get a GA position; no one was refused a position.
First semester was pretty easy. There was a lot of group work and networking with a variety of library and information professionals from the Central New York region. Several of the required courses are difficult but they are valuable. Studying and homework time probably amounts to between ten and twenty hours each week.
My classmates are fantastic. The University is beautiful and has a great shuttle bus system for the parking arrangements. A gym membership is included in the tuition fees so any of the six gyms on and around campus are available. Apartments on campus are expensive. Neighborhoods near campus have a history of mugging (about 10 recorded in the fall semester). If you have a car, however, there are many nice, cheap, safe neighborhoods within a 10 minute drive of campus. The bus system, Centro, is well-revered, as well. The majority of the Information Studies and Telecommunications programs are Asian.
Job prospects are absolutely better. SU has a great reputation and a great alumni network.
